Parting Shots from Escazu

It was a wonderful treat visiting Barry Biesanz's gallery and workshop today. We especially appreciated the time Minor (one of his assistants) took to explain the long process that leads to each finished piece. After the initial shape of the bowl is created they are left to dry for 10 to 15 years. They are then hand turned by the master himself and sanded and buffed. No polish is ever used.

We not only left with a beautiful bowl but with a much greater appreciation of the work and care that goes into each bowl that Barry makes. Even though Barry only creates bowls, many of his assistants make beautiful jewelry boxes, humidors and much more, which are subject to Barry's approval. He is known in many countries and has sold many works of art to celebrities and heads of state around the world. If you appreciate superb quality wood craftsmanship, "Biesanz Woodworks" is a must see. We only regret that Barry was out of town and we could not meet him personally.
